Discover Canada's best kept secret; Nunavut. An exciting arctic destination
that offers a pristine, raw, and a truly "you and nature"
experience. The Inuit people are brilliant, industrious and innovative,
and have survived in Nunavut for thousands of years. The variety of
adventure knows no limits. Nunavut is geographically diverse; you
can visit ice flows, tame the rapids, camp by tranquil lakes, cross-country
ski, hunt and fish, try dog-sledding, or go extreme mountain hiking.
Why choose Nunavut?
There are many activities that are perfectly suited for the Territory
of Nunavut. Hiking, canoeing and camping enthusiasts will find the
terrain ideal for their passion, while animal lovers can visit some
of the most unique wildlife on the planet in our bird and wildlife
Kayakers will of course know that kayaking is part of Inuit heritage
and Nunavut offers one of the world’s most diverse sea-kayaking environments,
as well as many experienced guides.
For those who just like to watch, you’ll never find anything quite
as amazing as standing on a Floe Edge watching icebergs after the
ice breaks up.
The Beluga Whale is common to communities lining Hudson Bay’s west
coast, Foxe Basin, and the east coast of Baffin Island all the way
to Pond Inlet. Belugas like to congregate in the mouths of rivers,
making it possible to go beluga watching from land, but a guide and
a boat are more advantageous and exhilarating. See also Polar Bears,
Musk-Ox and Caribou.
There is also a host of Territorial and National Parks and these remote,
accessible parks receive around 2,000 visitors a year. That’s one
reason they remain unspoiled and untamed.
It is in Nunavut you can also experience possibly the most exhilerating
experience in Canada with a High Arctic Cruise through the Northwest
Passage. You will travel north of the magnetic north pole in one of
the world’s most luxurious icebreakers. Depending on your package
you can visit as far north as Tanquary Fiord on Ellesmere Island.
Popular stops include Pond Inlet, Cambridge Bay and the islands of
Beechy and Somerset.
